LEWISTON — The Jesus Party Urban Youth Outreach announces its 2012 Christmas services offered to area children and adults this holiday season. The ministry does not provide financial assistance or gifts; rather it focuses its efforts to create wholesome and memorable moments in one’s life.
Rev. Douglas and Sonia Taylor will provide the following events at no cost and can be reached at 786-5568 or [email protected]. All Friday night gatherings are held at Jesus Party Headquarters, 291 Bates St., at 6 p.m. with the exceptions of holiday field trips. Pick- up and drop-off times will be arranged.
On Saturday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. children will enjoy a field trip to the 19th annual “Christmas Spectacular” at the East Auburn Baptist Church. Children will be awed by the massive light show, dance, singing, drama and a story that depicts the true meaning of the season.
On Thursday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. a field trip will be held for children to attend the “Nativity Live” at the Lewiston Pathway Vineyard Church. Everyone will enjoy a drama presentation of the birth of Christ and enjoy homemade cookies, hot apple cider and a hay ride.
On Friday, Dec. 7, the ministry will show an animated version of the best-loved holiday story of all time, “A Christmas Carol.” Christmas cookies and punch will be served. The annual countdown to the ministry’s Christmas tree lighting will also be held.
On Friday, Dec. 14, children will be treated to a special holiday ice cream social and a viewing of “The Very First Noel,” an animated version of the story of the Three Wise Men. Christmas carols will be sung and door prizes will be awarded.
On Saturday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m., the Adult Happy Hour Christmas Party will take place. The event is adult oriented and will be full of holiday cheer. The ministry will have a showing of the 1973 film “The Gospel Road,” narrated by Johnny Cash. The film features Johnny’s music plus songs by June Carter Cash and Kris Kristofferson. Traditional holiday foods and beverages will be served.
On Wednesday, Dec. 19, and Saturday, Dec. 22, at 6 p.m., children will board the holy roller express passenger van and take a tour of the Christmas lights throughout Lewiston and Auburn. A special stop at a local coffee shop will be made for a cup of hot chocolate.
On Friday, Dec. 21, The Jesus Party will celebrate their 18th annual Inner-city Christmas Party. The evening will be filled with traditional and contemporary Christmas sing-alongs. A buffet will be served and a special animated film called “The Gift” will be viewed. A sermon about the true meaning of Christmas will be given by Rev. Douglas Taylor.
The ministry of the Jesus Party believes that spending quality time with those you love is time better spent than running around, spending money you don’t have and becoming so exhausted you do not enjoy the moment.
