TURNER — After months of renovation, a new restaurant opened last week in the former Chick-A-Dee.

Owner Rhonda Hart of Buckfield named her new eatery Landmark Restaurant in a nod to the old establishment.

Open for 77 years, the Chick-A-Dee was a landmark in town. It closed in May.

Landmark Restaurant is looking to make a new name for itself.

It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with specialities in seafood, steak and chicken.

“We refreshed the dining room area with new paint and decor,” Hart said. “We had a very busy seafood weekend. I think people have missed the seafood option in Turner.”

Hart and her husband, Jim, already own Hart’s Pizza in Buckfield.

“We went from 11 seats to 125,” she said.

A family friend approached them about buying the Route 4 restaurant this summer after purchasing the surrounding 20 acres but not wanting the building.

“I am excited, a little nervous about being compared to what the Chick-A-Dee was,” Hart said.

In her staff of 25, two waitresses are the same, but the similarities end there. On the walls she’s hung antique pictures and license plates, going for a country feel. Hart said she’s kept prices affordable. A full breakfast — they offer waffles, omelets and crepes — is $4.99. A fried seafood platter with two sides is $16.99 for a lunch portion, $21.99 for a dinner portion. When both are offered, customers can order lunch-size or the larger dinner-size of an entree at either meal.

The crowd and reception has been positive since opening last Tuesday, she said.

Hart is 41 and her husband 44.

“I can’t see us being here for 50 years,” she said, but she’s hoping one of their boys, 18 and 23, might want to carry on the Landmark’s legacy one day. “My oldest has been here quite a bit.”
