OXFORD — A special town meeting is set for Dec. 12 to vote on a zoning change to allow a new wastewater treatment plant and an ordinance change for pawnbrokers.

The treatment plant articles ask voters to approve amending the zoning ordinance and authorizing a general obligation bond of up to $20.2 million to pay for the construction of a treatment plant.

The zoning change would allow the town to build the plant in the general development zone along Route 26 in Welchville village. The bond would pay for construction of the treatment plant and a sewage system. Selectmen plan to pay off the bond mostly with revenue from the tax increment financing district, as well as with grants and loans.

The pawnbrokers ordinance would be updated to allow for better tracking of valuables sold to local pawn shops to cross-reference them with reported thefts.

The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Oxford Elementary School on Pleasant Street.
