Historical Society Christmas supper

PARIS — The November and December meetings of the Paris Cape Historical Society will be combined on Thursday, Dec. 6, in a Christmas supper party. Members and friends are invited to the home of Cynthia Immonen, 43 Mountain View Drive, South Paris, for a supper meeting at 5 p.m. followed by a Christmas story and the singing of Christmas carols.

Cynthia’s home will be marked by a lighted star in the front window. Parking is in the driveway or along the street.

Contact Cynthia at 743-2384 to tell her what you plan to bring for the supper. Bread or rolls, salads, casseroles and desserts are welcome.

Thursday, Nov. 29, is the last Thursday afternoon that the museum will be open until May. The next meeting of the society will be on April 18 at 7 p.m. To purchase anything from the museum store for Christmas gifts, contact Cynthia Immonen at the number given.

Harrison VFW dance Dec. 1

HARRISON — The Harrison VFW Post on the Waterford Road will have a BYOB dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Dec. 1. Admission, $10 per person for 21 and over. The band will be Cold Blue Steel. For more information call Ellen at 583-4558.

Hebron Academy public skating

HEBRON — Hebron Academy’s Robinson Arena is now open for public skating on Sunday afternoons from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. through March 10.

The cost is $3 for adults and $2 for children age 12 and under. Parking is available in the athletic center lot off Route 119.

Hebron skating sessions are free for children participating in the Maine WinterKids Passport program. The WinterKids Passport offers all Maine fifth-, sixth- and seventh-graders the opportunity to learn and enjoy winter sports with free and discounted tickets, lessons and rentals at outdoor recreation areas across the state. The WinterKids Passport includes 17 alpine ski areas, 22 nordic centers, 13 ice arenas, two tubing parks and even dog sledding. Christmas craft program Dec. 6

BRYANT POND — Charlotte Winchester will lead a Christmas Craft Program making tree ornaments at the Whitman Memorial Library at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6. Supplies will be provided, but bring a glue gun if you have one. The program is open to the public at no charge and light refreshments will be served.

Christmas memories on stage

BETHEL — The Senior College Players of Bethel will present two audience-participation holiday favorites, “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” by Dylan Thomas, and “Memories of a Wonderful Life” by Jonathan M. Zaley, on Friday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 8, at l and 7 p.m. at the Mason House Exhibit Hall, 14 Broad St.

Rabies clinic set for Dec. 8

HARRISON — Town of Harrison Rabies Clinic will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Harrison Fire Station.

Rabies shots are $10 per dog or cat. Residents and nonresidents are welcome. Dog licensing will be available for Harrison residents.

Proof of prior rabies vaccine is required if applicable. If proof is not provided, the vaccine will be valid for only one year.

Christmas Fair at Free Baptist

OTISFIELD — A Christmas Fair will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Fellowship room of the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church, 231 Rayville Road, off Route 121. Money raised will benefit the Scholarship Fund which awards scholarships each year to area students who continue their education after high school.

The fair will feature a cookie walk, bake sale, crafts, an attic treasures table, Rada cutlery and also a Santa collection donated by Rev. Genise Stern which will be available for sale. The fair will continue on Sunday, Dec. 9, after the 10 a.m. service.

Fire Dept. public supper

PARIS — The Paris Fire Department Auxiliary will hold a public supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Paris Fire Department, Western Avenue.

Menu will be turkey pie, mashed potatoes, veggies, macaroni and cheese, salads, cranberry sauce and homemade desserts.

There will be a 50/50 raffle. Cost is adults $8, ages 4-12 $4, ages 3 and under free.

All proceeds will benefit the Paris Fire Department Auxiliary and Fire Personnel.

AARP to hold holiday meeting

PARIS — The holiday meeting of AARP Oxford Hill Chapter will be held on Monday, Dec. 10, at the First Congregational Church on East Main Street, South Paris. Lunch will be served at noon and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by Friday, Dec. 7. The menu will be a chicken pie dinner. The cost is $6.50.

Remember to bring your total of volunteer hours for this year and a donation for the food pantry would be appreciated. There will be no meeting in January, however any ideas for future programs would be welcomed.

The winter weather cancellation policy is to meet the following day, Tuesday, during December, February and March. Cancellations will be announced on radio station WOXO, 92.7 or if school has been canceled.

Tar sands oil meeting Dec. 11

WATERFORD — A meeting on tar sands will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Waterford Town Office, 366 Valley Road.

Learn more about tar sands oil and how it effects Waterford. There will be a brief presentation followed by questions and answers.

Program: Advance Care Planning

NORWAY — The MaineHealth Learning Resource Center at Stephens Memorial Hospital will offer “Its Your Choice: Advance Care Planning,” to be held on Thursday, Dec. 20, from noon to 1 p.m., in the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Office Building, 193 Main St. There is no cost for this program.

Stephens Memorial Hospital’s licensed clinical social worker, Robin Green, will present a discussion on advance directives and other ways to make healthcare wishes known ahead of time. Attendees will receive advance directive forms and a complimentary lunch.
