NORWAY — The board of Alpha & Omega Ministries Inc., a nonprofit, interdenominational ministry, recently signed a lease on a piece of property with option to buy. The property has a large two-bay garage needing major alterations before it is usable. The new property is five miles north on Route 26 from its current location at Norway-Paris Solid Waste.
To expedite the move there will be a gigantic sale from now until Christmas. The Thrift Shop offers household items, knick knacks, couches, chairs, beds, bed frames, headboards, stands, tables, chairs, appliances, refrigerators, dryers, doors, windows and building supplies at great prices. Various board games, educational supplies, puzzles, toys and bicycles are offered for children of all ages. Sporting goods, hardware supplies, TVs, videos, tools, paperback and hard cover books, clothes, shoes, boots and much more are for sale. Brand new Avon products, more than 200 collectible Beanie Babies in plastic cases and 50 porcelain dolls are perfect for gift giving.
The shop has been at the NPSW facility for nearly six years serving the Oxford Hills and surrounding area. The shop’s extreme success has necessitated moving to a much larger property. Alpha & Omega Thrift Shop will be open six days a week with longer hours to better meet the needs of the community. The current building will be moved and adjoined with the two-bay garage on the new property. The shop will now have a restroom, Internet connection and plenty of parking with easy access. Once the move is completed and the building is renovated there will be nearly 2,000 square feet under cover.
The two-bay garage is in great need of repair. The ministry is looking for special individuals, business people and organizations to join their Capital Fundraising Campaign to immediately move the shop to the new location at 527 Park St., South Paris. Contributions are tax-deductible. The immediate priority is a new roof on the garage, which will cost $2,500. The cost to move the current building to the new property is at least $3,500.
Contact Bert Rugg, executive director, at 515-3000 or Janice Davis, owner and operator of Kings Hill Inn, at 744-0204 for financial support or shop donations. Tax-deductible donations may be sent to P.O. Box 133, South Paris ME 04281.
The ministry currently supports His Place Teen Center, Oxford Hills Christian School, University of Maine 4-H Conservation Camp and more. The ministry continues to furnish clothes, medical supplies, Bibles and educational materials to foreign countries around the world, including the Sonshine Hacienda Children’s Orphanage in San Felipe, Mexico, which the ministry help build from 2008-11. Alpha & Omega has sent clothing and medical supplies to Mexico, Honduras and the Bahamas to date but desires to do more. They also recently furnished Bibles and religious books to Liberia, Africa.
