MEXICO — The Police Department responded to 41 complaints over the past week. Among them were the following:
* A Roxbury Road resident reported at 10:49 a.m. Nov. 26, that they received a call from an unknown person saying their grandson was in jail in Canada and he would not be bailed out unless they were wired $3,000.
The resident said he talked with his daughter later that day and that his grandson was not in jail. Police Lt. Roy Hodsdon said the department has recently received two similar calls, which are scams.
“Whoever is making the call focuses on the elderly,” Hodsdon said. “If anybody else receives a call like this and are unsure whether it’s real, call the local police and we’ll check into it.”
* A Main Street business reported at 4:51 p.m. Nov. 26, that a man was found sleeping in the basement. Hodsdon said state police learned the man was from Texas and had been sleeping in a tent behind businesses in other towns as well, including Bethel and Rumford. Police issued the man a criminal trespass warning.
* A vehicle driven by Ryan C. Laubauskas, 20, of Mexico, was traveling south on Roxbury Road when a deer walked into the road in front of his 2002 Subaru. Laubauskas attempted to turn into the ditch on the southbound lane to avoid the deer, but instead over-corrected and the car rolled onto the roof and back onto its tires. The car was demolished. Labauskas was not injured.

* At 1:22 p.m. Nov. 26, Joshua Hines, 21, of Mexico, was arrested on charges of domestic terrorizing and criminal mischief. Hines was booked at the Mexico Police Department and released on $800 unsecured bail. He was given a date of Jan. 8, 2013, to appear in 11th District Court in Rumford.
