AUBURN — A local man was arrested on burglary and theft charges late Thursday night, and police said he is a suspect in a string of break-ins across several counties.

John P. Michaud, 45, was arrested on felony charges after an Androscoggin County Sheriff’s deputy made a routine traffic stop in Auburn.

Investigators had been looking for Michaud in connection with burglaries in Poland and Turner, according to a news release.

After he was found in the car that was stopped Thursday night, detectives went to his home where police said they found items that had been stolen from a Turner home earlier in the day.

By Friday, several agencies were joining in the investigation. Androscoggin County Sheriff’s officials said more charges are expected to be filed.

Michaud was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail where he was being held Friday on $30,000 cash bail.
