A horse and wagon, used for delivery of furniture by the great Department Store, drifted from its moorings yesterday afternoon, either voluntarily or at the will of some party or parties unknown, and has not yet been sighted. The team was left standing in the alley in the rear of the store between three and four o’clock yesterday afternoon. When it was again wanted for use, there was nothing left of it but wheeltracks and footprints. The police of both cities have been notified.
50 years ago, 1962
The new Dane-T-Bits bakery in Auburn is expected to be in operation about Dec. 20, but peak production will probably not be reached for about 30 days. No decision has been made what the first item off the bakery production line will be, but it probably will be some sort of sweet cookie. Newly hired production personnel will be learning as production progresses.

A plan to start a merit pay system for Auburn teachers received another setback Monday when teachers agreed to schedule a vote that could dash plans for implementing the project. During a closed meeting at the Auburn Middle School, teachers decided to vote Friday on whether they want merit pay negotiated for the school year beginning next fall, said Idella Harter, president of the Auburn Teacher Association. The sentiments of teachers seemed to be split on merit pay during Monday’s meeting, she said.
