DEAR SUN SPOTS: Has your paper learned anything about Nuyens Wisniowka that is made in Lewiston? A lot of us are concerned in central New York because none of our liquor stores, bars or distributers can find an answer to why there has been a shortage or outage for more than a month here. Any information you could provide would be helpful. Thank you! — Don Sroka, dsro@roadrunner.com

ANSWER: This question gave Sun Spots fits. There was almost nothing online. She finally figured out that Nuyens was owned by White Rock Distilleries, but White Rock recently sold off many, if not all, of its products.

Two of those brands were sold to Jim Beam. When Sun Spots called the local offices, the woman who answered the phone said she thinks Wisniowka is now produced in Kentucky, but she could tell Sun Spots little more.

Sun Spots then called the president of the American Distilling Institute, who said it is nearly impossible to track where a liquor is actually produced. His explanation was confusing, but what Sun Spots got out of it is that there are only a few companies that actually make the liquor, but many others that distribute it.

The only thing Sun Spots is reasonably certain about is that Wisniowka is no longer made in Lewiston.

Perhaps a reader who works at the company can shed more light.

ANSWER: The first one that comes to mind are food kitchens, such as Hope Haven Gospel Mission, or churches that might be serving a dinner to the homeless or needy. Readers, can you supply some options?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am working on a project for next year’s Holy Savior School Christmas Fair. If anyone has scraps of yarn that they would be willing to donate, it would be greatly appreciated.

It can be dropped off at Holy Savior School in Rumford or I can pick it up. Contact me to arrange for a pick up. — Jennifer DeMascio, demascio@roadrunner.com, 364-2207
