Microchip and rabies clinic

STRONG — A rabies and microchip clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 8, at Strong Fire Station. Cost is $12 rabies; $25 microchips. All proceeds benefit Franklin County Animal Shelter.

Seniors to read original writing

FARMINGTON — Ten UMF seniors in Maine’s only Bachelor of Fine Arts in creative writing program will be reading from their original works in poetry, fiction and nonfiction at University of Maine at Farmington’s Creative Writing Senior Reading. This free and open-to-the-public event will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, in The Landing in the UMF Olsen Student Center.

Each student’s reading will draw from his/her portfolio created as a senior capstone project in UMF’s competitive creative writing program. A culmination of each student’s creative writing accomplishments during their time at UMF, portfolios consist of the student’s best writing, an artist statement and a self-assessment of their work.

Seniors who will read from their work include Chelsea Browning-Bohannah of Hamden, Conn.; Breanna DeLuca of Rehoboth, Mass.; Zoe Estrin-Grele of Putney, Vt.; Joana Hill of Lincoln; Renald Lefebvre of Lewiston; Connor Lofink of Brookfield, Conn.; Katie Marshall of Dover Foxcroft; Kelsey Moore of Avon, Conn.; Tyler Noyes of Farmington; and Alison Osborne of Medway, Mass.

Landowner’s forum Dec. 18

FARMINGTON — Healthy Community Coalition is hosting a free landowner’s forum, as part of its Mapping Our Footsteps initiative, on Tuesday, Dec. 18, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Chisholm Room at Franklin Memorial Hospital. The forum is an opportunity for local landowners and managers to learn more about their rights and responsibilities and the benefits of allowing public use of their lands.

Mark Latti, landowner relations/recreational access coordinator for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, will speak about landowner liability laws and how local outdoor groups and organizations can work with landowners to allow public use on private land. Attendees will also have an opportunity to learn more about the Mapping Our Footsteps initiative, the website www.mainetrailfinder.com and other resources for sustainable land use.

Mapping Our Footsteps focuses on connecting public health and the local natural environment through the promotion of local walking and hiking trails throughout Greater Franklin County. MSAD 52 Zumba mini-sessions

TURNER — Four-week Zumba mini-sessions will be offered at MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education in January. Cost is $28 for each session or drop in for $8 a class.

Zumba will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays starting Jan. 8, at the Turner Primary School. 

Dance your way into shape. The class is for everyone, even those with two left feet. Modifications will be provided so that each person can work at their own pace. Bring water and a towel and wear sneakers.

Zumba Toning will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning Jan. 10 at the Turner Primary School. This class will combine targeted body sculpting exercises with a high-energy cardio workout. Latin-infused moves are used to recreate and redefine your body.
