DURHAM — On Oct. 21, 13 adults walked back roads in Durham to raise funds for fuel assistance in that town. The event was hosted by the First Congregational Church, Durham, United Church of Christ, which held the walk for a fall fundraiser for the church. The decision was made to share 50 percent of the proceeds with the town fuel assistance program.

The town currently has enough funds to purchase 100 gallons of fuel for some of the needy. Last year 10 families were served before funds ran out. The goal is to have $5,000 in that fund.

The walk included community members as well as folks from the church family.

Participants were warmed, spiritually and physically, from walking 5.5 miles and knowing that more people will be warmer this winter. The church has created a new annual event, “Warm Winter Walk.” The total collected or pledged is in excess of $1751. After the walk, refreshments were enjoyed at the home of a parishioner.
