OXFORD — Town police officer James Richardson is resigning from the department to take a private sector job, Town Manager Michael Chammings announced to the Board of Selectmen on Thursday.
Richardson gave his two-week notice on Dec. 3. In his resignation letter, Richardson said he has enjoyed working for the Oxford Police Department but wants to take advantage of “an opportunity for a normal schedule.”
He added that he’s interested in still working part time for the department. Chammings said the department will likely find a replacement in-house from its lineup of reserve officers.
The board also directed Chammings to take steps to establish a Comprehensive Plan Committee to update the town’s comprehensive plan, and accepted a $1,500 donation from Walmart for Keep Oxford Warm, which helps families in need of fuel assistance.
