RUMFORD — River Valley Rotary Club was award a District Simplified Grant of $1800 to purchase a refrigerator and canning equipment to process and store fresh produce in cooperation with the local food banks, Cooperative Extension, River Valley Healthy Communities and SNAP recipients to deliver food to Meals on Wheels, sponsored by the Seniors Plus Program, and to provide informational sessions for safe food handling and storage.
District Simplified Grants support the service activities or humanitarian endeavors of districts. Applications need to respect the wishes of the community. The District Simplified Grant Selection Committee had to choose among 24 grant applications representing 28 clubs; with only $15,000 available this year, only 10 applications could be selected.
The amount of money that is available to distribute each year is based entirely on the district’s past giving. The more money the district contributes, the more money is returned to the district, money that members can invest in meaningful projects in the immediate area.
