LEWISTON — Beat Rust, a collective of musicians who organize house shows and performances at various downtown locations, will present the next in a series of concerts on Saturday, Dec. 8, at Trinity Church.

Featured artists are Greg and Jessie Boardman of Lewiston, who will sing and play fiddle, viola, cello, guitar, whistle and pump organ. They will play tunes and sing songs of this and all seasons.

Local folk singer, songwriter and film scorer Denise Dill will open the evening. She has released nine full-length albums and performed more than 1,000 shows across the United States and Canada over the past 15 years.

Greg and Jessie Boardman perform a particularly New England-style of folk music, with new and original songs, airs and dance tunes mixed in with traditional music in the Scots-Irish and French-Canadian styles.

Greg, who performed at the 2010 Kingfield POPS with his sons, is founder of Maine Fiddle Camp, where he and Jessie are both on staff. He has been awarded a Traditional Arts Fellowship as a master fiddler by the Maine Arts Commission.

Well-versed as both a solo performer and a band member, Dill’s music ranges from acoustic to electronic to experimental to rock. The Trinity show will be the first solo performance for her in quite awhile, as she gears up for the release of her next album.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m.; doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with light snacks available. Suggested donation: $10 in support of the artists and use of the church space at 247 Bates St. Twenty percent of proceeds go to Trinity in support of its community programs, The Jubilee Center, The Center for Wisdom’s Women and Tree Street Youth. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

“The music funnels through the space with such ease, bounces off of the stained-glass windows and completely enfolds you inside the wooden frame of that big old church. It is cool to see it transformed into a concert venue. And I am proud of the fact that it is bringing music to the heart of downtown Lewiston,” Dill said.
