BUCKFIELD — On a trip to Florida Jason Rowe and Mark McAlister, owners of Captain Bly’s Tavern, decided the town needed a place where people could come, relax, watch one of three TVs, eat a nice meal and have something to drink.

They returned to Buckfield and leased the garage on Route 117 from Danny and Steve Bly.

They plan to offer weekend dinners of roast beef or haddock and on weekdays lighter meals and always have lunches of hamburgers and sandwiches.

Turning the garage into a restaurant was not an easy task, McAlister said. They had to completely gut the inside, removing walls and metal shelving. Two new handicap accessible bathrooms were built. New walls were constructed and windows installed. A wood stove was added to supply ambiance, and tables and chairs to seat as many as 68 patrons are in place.

The tavern will create 13 part-time jobs, which will be good for the local economy, Rowe said.

Rowe and McAlister said they are hoping to open Dec. 19 and look forward to offering people a nice place to come and enjoy a good meal and entertainment.
