RUMFORD — John R. “Jack” Ronan, 87, of Penobscot Street, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 9, at his residence with loving family by his side.
He was born in Augusta, Sept. 13, 1925, a son of Thomas P. and Nellie (Kett) Ronan of Ireland. Jack was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946.
Jack was a self-employed painting contractor for many years in the River Valley. Prior to this, he was employed at Oxford Paper Co. for 3 years.
He loved sailing, going out to eat and taking his children and grandchildren on scenic trips. Jack loved animals, especially his dog “Chico.”
He will be remembered as a hard worker, and a very loving and caring man.
Surviving are his children, Ellen Marie Ronan of Livermore, Dennis M. Ronan and wife, Kathleen, of Canton, Linwood J. Ronan and wife, Jacqueline, of Rumford, John M. Ronan of Rumford and Pamela A. Jacobs of Rumford; two sisters, Margaret (King) Roberts and husband, Donald, of Sidney and Mary Ellen Pomber of Falmouth; a brother, Timothy Ronan Sr.; 12 grandchildren, Lenny Ronan, Tasha Ronan, Angela Ronan, Jamie Patneaude, Joshua Ronan, Jeana Ronan, Noah Ronan, Seth Jacobs, Adam Jacobs, Jared Jacobs, Dustin Benedix and April Pinard; four great-grandchildren, Christian Ronan, MacKenzie Benedix, Garrett Pinard and Issaac Pinard; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Theresa M. (Boudreau) Ronan in 2008; and three brothers, William Ronan, Thomas Ronan Jr. and Stephen Ronan.
