The Lewiston Board of Mayor and Aldermen held an indignation meeting last evening as the result of a statement made by Dr. Hallock, pastor of the Pine Street Congregational Church, before the Chamber of Commerce Monday evening in which he characterized Lewiston as the “worst governed city in Maine.” A committee was appointed to draw up resolutions with reference to Dr. Hallock’s attack.” It is understood that further steps will be taken in the matter and that a public apology from Dr. Hallock will be demanded.

50 years ago, 1962
With Ward Four Councilman John W. Duddy voting in lonely opposition, the Auburn City Council voted last night to purchase a new combination pumper-ladder truck for the Auburn Fire Department but made no decision on the manner in which the vehicle will be financed. Bids on the combination truck, known as a Quint, were opened yesterday.

25 years ago, 1987
Calling it “Christmas in Lisbon today,” John Harris, president of the Lisbon Development Corporation, announced a string of new businesses will be locating in Lisbon soon. The well-known, established businesses, Dingley Press of Freeport and Dugas Express of Auburn, will be relocating in town, Harris said. In addition, a new 150-acre industrial park will be built on Route 196 near the Lisbon-Lewiston line; J.B. Brown Co., a Portland real estate developer, will construct a 20,000 square foot building in the Lisbon Industrial Park in Lisbon Falls; Merrymeeting Developers of Topsham plans to build another building on an adjacent lot to house a construction firm it recently purchased; and Kennebec Associates of Bath plans to apply for permits to develop a solid waste facility in Lisbon.
