BRUNSWICK — December at The Theater Project is full of story, song and laughter.

Three events — A Young Company production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” by Barbara Robinson; the theater’s annual “Wales and Tales” production and “Stories with Phyllis and Al” — will bring home the holiday season.

In “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant are faced with casting the Herdman kids, probably the most inventively awful kids in history. Mayhem and fun prevail when the Herdmans collide head-on with the Christmas story. Director Al Miller leads the high-school Young Company in this funny, sweet tale.

“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14-15 and Dec. 21-22; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 & 23.  Tickets are pay what you want, with a suggested price of $12. Call 729-8584 or visit www.theaterproject.com.

“Wales and Tales” is a holiday melting pot of performances. A highlight is Miller’s traditional rendition of “A Child’s Christmas in Wales.” He will also tell a winter story or two, including “The Mitten,” and likely close with another tradition, “A Cajun Night Before Christmas.”

Also featured will be a touching piece about a World War I Christmas truce, a true story presented by actors from The Center Stage Players.

“Wales and Tales” will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, and 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23.  Both performances are suitable for families, and will include music and audience participation, though singing and acting are encouraged, not required.

The two “Wales and Tales” performances will benefit the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program. Audience members are asked to bring a monetary donation or food for MCHPP.  According to MCHPP Executive Director Cyndy Carney, a monetary gift is more helpful because food can be purchased at special rates.  Checks should be made out to MCHPP.

On Monday, Dec. 24, at 11 a.m., Phyllis Fuchs, former children’s librarian in Brunswick, and Miller will offer their annual storytelling for families. She and Miller have been telling holiday tales for more years than they choose to remember. The program is especially appropriate for small children, parents and grandparents.  Admission is free, with audience members encouraged to bring a donation for MCHPP.
