Ski Museum plans open house

KINGFIELD — A open house will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Ski Museum of Maine, 256 Maine St. Free admission, all invited. Refreshments will be served.

Enjoy a holiday beverage, visit the exhibits and chat with friends and share personal ski history stories. There will also be some great old movies playing, including a slide show of the Sugarloaf 1971 Alpine World Cup.

The Sports outlet will be giving a 20 percent discount off all nonsale items to attendees during the open house.

Candlelight service Dec. 23

MADRID — Reeds Mill Church will keep with tradition by holding its annual Candlelight Christmas Service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23.

Warmed by the woodstove under the glow of the lit kerosene lamps, worshipers will gather in the historic church to celebrate the Christmas season with the singing of favorite carols and the reading of the Christmas story.

The service will be enriched this year with music performed by Candace Maher of the Conway area. She plays professionally in that area as well as for churches. For directions or more information, call Ginni at 639-2713.

Osteoporosis, stroke screenings

FARMINGTON — Stroke and osteoporosis screenings by Life Line Screening will be held Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the University of Maine at Farmington, 111 South St.

Screenings identify potential cardiovascular conditions such as blocked arteries and irregular heart rhythm, abdominal aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which is a strong predictor of heart disease. A bone density screening to assess osteoporosis risk is also offered and is appropriate for both men and women.

Packages start at $149. All five screenings take 60 to 90 minutes to complete. Preregistration is required.
