FARMINGTON — The community is invited to celebrate the birth of Jesus at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve at a candlelight service with Henderson Memorial Baptist Church and Summit Faith Community. While the two churches have been sharing the building at 110 Academy St. since September, this will be the first worship experience with both churches participating simultaneously. All are welcome.

The service will include many Christmas carols for the congregation to sing, along with scripture readings and prayers that tell the story of how the promised Savior was born in Bethlehem and the angels announced his birth. Readers from both congregations will share from God’s word. Lisa Sturtevant will sing “Mary, Did You Know?”

Both pastors, Ryan Goding and Susan Crane will light the Christ candle together, symbolizing that the Light of the World has come. A combined choir will sing “Night of Wonder” as individual candles are being lit around the sanctuary from the Christ candle.

The congregation will join the choir in singing “Silent Night” by candlelight. At the close of the service, the congregation will break into singing “Joy to the World” (traditional carol, with a contemporary bridge called “Unspeakable Joy”).

A special offering will be received at the service for the Franklin County Ecumenical Heating Fund; checks can be made payable to ECU HEAT.
