LEWISTON — On Friday, Dec. 28, Museum L-A will continue its popular make-your-own musical instrument programs for youngsters age 5-12. “Make and Take” will use the current exhibit, “The Power of Music,” as the starting point and demonstrate how music can come from all kinds of common objects as well as intricately-created instruments. Both programs will take place at Museum L-A, 35 Canal St., in the Bates Mill Complex from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Nine- to 12-year-olds will “Make and Take” a xylophone. Participants will construct a pipe xylophone and experiment with their own system of musical notation, with the goal of composing a simple tune. Registration fee is $10.

Children age 5-7 will “Make and Take” a percussion instrument. They will learn about the different instruments in an orchestra and make their own tambourine or maraca to play along with a song. Registration fee is $8.

Preregistration for the programs is required and family discounts are available. Contact Museum L-A at 333-3881 or jbeal@museumla.org for more information or to register a child.
