AUBURN — Alban Theriault, 90, of Old Lisbon Road, Lewiston, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
He was born in Fort Kent, March 27, 1922, son of the late Joseph and Eva (Babin) Theriault. He was educated in Fort Kent schools and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a tech sergeant. He was a recipient of the EAME Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct medal and a Silver Star medal. He was married at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on Oct. 26, 1946, to Jeannette Brin of Lewiston.
He was an auto mechanic by trade — owned his own company, worked many years at Rowe Ford then at Pat Cyr’s Garage in Sabattus, until his retirement.
Al was a long time member of Prince of Peace Parish at Holy Cross Church.
He was an avid outdoorsman who especially liked to fish and hunt. He was a very giving person who always put his family and others first. He kept his family and friends supplied with food — whether it was fiddleheads or strawberries that he had just picked or fish and venison from his latest catch. His annual fall ritual was going back to his home town of Fort Kent to pick potatoes with his two brothers, Edmond and Pete. He donated a portion of his harvest to local soup kitchens and homeless shelters. His last trip to pick potatoes was this past September.
He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as their “Pepere Puss,” who was always ready to get down on the floor to play with them.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette “Jane” of Lewiston; two daughters, Christine Johnson and Gloria Perreault and husband, Ray, all of Lewiston; a son, Michael B. Theriault of Lewiston; four granddaughters, Jara Kim Johnson, DO of Rochester, N.Y., Abby Lyn Chasse of Lewiston, Andrea Marie Lydon and husband, John, of Lewiston and Renee Ann Perreault of Cape Elizabeth; three great-grandchildren, Silas and Brynn Chasse and John Raymond Lydon; his 12 siblings, Eli Theriault and wife, Georgie, of South Windsor, Conn., Edmond Theriault and wife, Joan, of Eagle Lake, Lillian Anderson of Manchester, Conn., Kate Whitneck of Nashville, Tenn., Lorianne Stepanian of East Hartford, Conn., Alire “Pete” Theriault of Manchester, Conn., Ethel Theriault of Nashville, Tenn., Gloria Schofield and husband, Dave, of Corpus Christie, Texas, Rita Hanning and husband, Keith, of Greene, Inez Smith of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Donald Theriault and wife, Kyong Hui, of San Antonio, Texas, and Ronald Theriault and wife, Claire, of Greene; also numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
