Holiday bazaar at B Street Center

LEWISTON — 100 Pine Street Wellness and Recovery Center will host its first ever Holiday Bazaar on Dec. 15 and 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the B Street Community Center, 57 Birch St., Conference Room A. 

There will be jewelry, blankets, pillows, candy, holiday decorations and more. Most of the items have been handmade by club members.

The 100 Pine Street Wellness and Recovery Center supports people with mental health issues. Proceeds of this fundraiser will help support programs for the center as well as the purchase of a sign for the front door.

LHS Christmas concert Dec. 17

LEWISTON — Lewiston High School Vocal Music will have their annual Christmas concert Monday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m., at the Franco American Heritage Center. Admission is free but donations are accepted. If the concert is snowed out, it will be held Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Knights holding essay contest

LEWISTON — The Holy Cross Knights of Columbus Council 12,652 will be holding an essay contest during the month of December with a deadline of Jan. 10. The contest is open to all catholic students in grades 8 through 12. This year’s theme is “The Importance of Religious Freedom.”

Essays need to be typed on an 8.5 by 11 inch sheet of paper, one sided, double spaced, with one inch margins. May be 500 to 750 words in length.

Essays will be judged on a 100 point scoring system.

20 points, overall impression: How well does the essay describe the role of a Catholic citizen in a free society?

30 points, content: How clearly is the theme presented?

20 points, grammar: How well is the essay written with respect to sentence structure, paragraph, construction and spelling?

30 points, style: Does the essay show creativity, imagination and development of the topic in a compelling style?
