33 more kids need gifts

FAYETTE — There remain 33 unanswered Christmas Giving Tree Ornaments or gift requests for Fayette kids at the Fayette Central School. The ornaments are now at the Fayette Town Office.

Requests include a 10-year-old boy asking “for winter boots” or a 9-year-old girl hoping “for warm stockings.”

Titcomb Mountain passes, programs

FARMINGTON — Friday, Dec. 14, is the deadline for both lesson program registrations and for the current preseason membership/season pass discount at Titcomb Mountain. Applications may be picked up at Titcomb Mountain Lodge or by visiting www.titcombmountain.com.

Forms for either the Farmington Ski Club Membership Application 2012-13 (season pass form) or the Titcomb Mtn. Snow-sports Program Application 2012-13 can be downloaded, printed and mailed with payment to Farmington Ski Club, PO Box 138, West Farmington, ME 04992.

Membership applications have to be postmarked by Friday, Dec. 14, to receive the season pass discount.

The Farmington Ski Club Board of Directors has established a goal of increasing the participation of children in winter outdoor recreation. The current membership prices are reduced significantly from recent years to help make outdoor recreation more affordable at Titcomb Mountain. Children rates are 20 to 40 percent lower than last season; still offered are a great value for adults plus discounts for three or more members. For children ages 6 to 12 a cross-country (nordic) pass is $65 and a downhill (alpine) pass is $135, through Dec. 14.

Caregiver training set

WATERVILLE — Free Savvy Caregiver six-week training will be hosted by Spectrum Generations at its Muskie Center, 38 Gold St., on Tuesdays starting Jan. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Maine Savvy Caregiver Program is a 12-hour educational program for family and friends caring for individuals with dementia living in the community. Participants will obtain the attitude, skills and knowledge necessary to keep a person with dementia content and involved in their life at home.

Caregivers will learn what dementia is and how it affects the person and the person’s behavior; learn tips and strategies for interacting and communicating with the person and how to understand and manage challenging behaviors; and develop a sense of confidence in caregiving and also learn how to care for themselves.
