WEST POINT, N.Y. – The University of Maine men’s basketball team fell at hot-shooting Army by the score of 96-67 on Friday night at Christl Arena in West Point, N.Y. Maine falls to 3-7 on the season while Army goes to 5-5. Justin Edwards led Maine with 18 points.

Maine took a quick 8-3 lead, but three Army 3-pointers gave the Black Knights a 12-8 lead with 16:43 left in the first half. They increased the lead to 22-15 but Maine closed the gap to 24-22 on a Jon Mesghna 3-pointer from the corner.

The Black Knights finished the first half on a 30-to-six run and took a 54-28 lead at half as they shot 62.5 percent from the field.

Women’s basketball

USM 57, Husson 20

GORHAM — Senior forward Jordan Grant scored a game-high 11 points to lead a solid team effort as the 19th-ranked University of Southern Maine Huskies rolled to a 57-20 win over the Husson University Eagles in a non-conference women’s basketball game at Hill Gymnasium on Friday night.

Grant led all scorers on 5-for-7 shooting in just 12 minutes of action as all 15 members of the USM squad saw at least 11 minutes of action. Grant added five rebounds and two assists.

Freshman guard Jill Madden tossed in a career-high eight points, including 2-for-2 mark from three-point range.

Sophomore forward Rebecca Knight grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to go along with six points in 12 minutes. Sophomore guard Jade Keezer led the Eagles with seven points on a 3-for-6 effort from the field. Senior guard Kelli Murray added five points and eight rebounds.

Women’s hockey

Union 4, Maine 3

ORONO — The University of Maine women’s ice hockey team fell to Union College, 4-3, at Alfond Arena Friday night.

Union College got on the board first at 10:42 into the first period off the stick of Rebecca Babiak. She got one by the Black Bear goalie on the Kathryn Tomaselli assist. Jennifer More notched her third goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1 off a power-play opportunity. More found the back of the net at 18:41 of the first period while Brittney Huneke picked up her second assist of the season and Tori Pasquariello tallied her first.

The second period saw little action until Pasquariello was able to sneak a timely placed puck passed the Union goalie for the 2-1 lead with 1:45 left of the period.

This goal marks Pasquariello’s fifth of the season. More gets credited with the assist on the even scoring opportunity, which marks her fourth of the season.
