DEAR SUN SPOTS: SHAREcenter in Auburn is a nonprofit organization that supports teachers and other nonprofit groups by providing them with recycled materials and other items that people and businesses would otherwise throw away. At this time we are in need of certain items that our members have requested.

We are looking for the following: yarn, CDs of any kind (for art projects), pencils, colored pencils, markers, glue, scotch tape, packing peanuts, baby food jars with lids, large coffee cans with lids, thin ribbon, paint brushes and poster paint for use in an elementary school classroom. We handle such a wide variety of supplies that you may also have something not mentioned here that we could certainly use.

If you can help, you can call us at 333-6671, or you can drop off the items at 15 Andrew Drive in Auburn on Tuesday or Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are located in the third building in the parking lot at East Auburn Community School. You can also email me with questions. Thank you. — Pat, pelliccia9@yahoo.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: For the person searching for the Titanic gold commemorative coins (Dec. 13), I found the following link: http://tinyurl.com/b5mu8gy. Hope it helps. — jacquie123@comcast.net

ANSWER: The National Geographic website is not selling the Titanic dollar but rather a memorial card. Here is the description:

“On Tuesday, April 16, 1912, The New York Times reported the sinking of the White Star luxury liner Titanic, one of the most studied disasters of the 20th century. This vinyl collectors’ portfolio includes a miniature, official reproduction of the paper’s front page and two genuine U.S. 1912 coins: a wheat penny and a liberty head nickel — the last year the liberty head nickel was struck for circulation. The Titanic disaster has captured the public’s imagination for a century, and with the centennial of the event in 2012, collectibles and memorabilia are more popular than ever.”

The cost is $35.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you so much for your service. My sister is looking for some Fun Fur yarn, colors golden rod and forest green, to make some hats for her grandsons. Do you know where she could get the yarn ? We have looked but no luck so far. Thank you. She can be reached at 247-4441. — Linda, Linholly53@yahoo.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots found Fun Fur yarn online at www.lionbrand.com/yarns/funFur.htm, the manufacturer’s website. They had many colors but not the two you mentioned. Perhaps they’ve been discontinued?

Sun Spots checked some other yarn websites, but they also did not have those colors.

At the Lion Brand website, Fun Fur was $4.99, with some discounted to $2.50.

Perhaps readers will know of a local source or have some leftover to share.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I want to thank the woman who found my purse in a cart at Walmart on Dec. 5 and turned it in to Lou, the greeter by the grocery door. I had a lot of cash and had just bought a bunch of gift cards for Christmas.

I was devastated when I realized my mistake, but overjoyed when I found out that an angel had turned in the purse! I hope she sees this and knows how grateful I am. Merry Christmas! — Susan Vatcher, susanvatcher@yahoo.com
