AUGUSTA — Ralph T. West Sr. of Orchard Drive, and formerly of High Ridge Drive in Augusta, died Dec. 15, at MaineGeneral Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Saco, March 14, 1923, the son of George R. West and Ruth (Dow) West.
Mr. West was a graduate of Thornton Academy in Saco and Columbia (South Carolina) Bible College.
He served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, having participated in action against the enemy at Iwo Jima and the Volcano Islands.
Mr. West became the Rev. West and served congregations in Canada, Maine, Florida, Pennsylvania and New York State over a period of many years.
The Rev. West was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Euleita (Black) West of Wilton; two sons, Ralph West Jr. “Rocky” of Wilton and Daniel S. West of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one daughter, Barbara W. Harley of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one brother, Neil D. West of Fremont, N.H.; one sister, Gene M. West of Chelsea; three grandchildren, Andrew Harley, Isaac Harley and Samuel West; one great-grandson, Oliver West; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
