LEEDS — A 13-year-old girl was recovering Tuesday from a broken bone in her shoulder as police searched for the driver whose car hit her and left the scene at 443 Church Hill Road.

Katelyn Hair was shoveling snow away from her family’s mailbox at about 4:15 p.m. Monday when she was hit by a blue Smart microcar, Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department investigators said. The car hit her and the mailbox before the driver took off, they said.

Deputy Sheriff Travis Lovering, who is investigating, said Hair was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where she was treated for a fracture to her shoulder and released.

As of Tuesday evening, Lovering said he had some “good leads” in the case.

The vehicle last seen driving west on Church Hill Road toward Turner. It should have noticeable passenger-side damage, the department said. Anyone with any information about the crash is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 753-2500.
