Historical soc. elects officers

LISBON FALLS — The annual election of officers for the year 2013 took place at the Lisbon Historical Society at the November meeting.

Alfred L. Smith was re-elected as president and archivist assistant. Merton Ricker was elected vice-president, replacing Karen Lemke who stepped down for personal reasons. Dorothy J. Smith was re-elected as secretary, treasure and archivist. All officers are residents of Lisbon Falls.

The society continues to receive artifacts and resource material from folks interested in preserving the history of the Lisbon area and its people.

Open every Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m., the public is invited to stop by to view the museum, do research or simply visit. Meetings are held monthly at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday and most often include a guest speaker. Meetings are free and open to the public.

Anyone interested in becoming a member can do so by contacting Alfred or Dorothy Smith at 207-353-8510 (home) or 207-402-9138 (cell). There is an annual fee of $5. Volunteers are always welcome, as well.

Sabattus Seniors monthly meeting

SABATTUS — The next monthly meeting of the Sabattus Seniors will be held Thursday, Jan. 3, at Maxwell Gill Hall.

The menu will be meatloaf, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables and bread pudding. Sign up by calling Pauline at 375-4037 or Betty at 946-7595 no later than Sunday, Dec. 30. Cancellations must also be done by that date.

Being winter if there is no school there is no meal. Postponed meals will be held the following Thursday.

Upcoming trips are a sugar party in Canada, Atlantic City, New York, Washington and more. For information on these trips call Jean at 784-5264. Helen is also organizing trips and may be reached at 375-6588.

Hospice volunteer training classes

LEWISTON — Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice has a growing need for hospice and bereavement volunteers in the Lewiston/Auburn, Brunswick and Topsham areas who have a special interest in visiting patients in their homes and in nursing homes.

The Hospice Volunteer six-session training will begin Monday, Jan. 14, at the Lewiston Office on 15 Strawberry Ave. Classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Bereavement Volunteer four-session training will begin Feb. 18 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Lewiston office. For new volunteers there is an orientation class on Jan. 31. There will also be a Bereavement Facilitator Class offered to those who have gone through the Bereavement Volunteer training and would like to help facilitate grief support groups. This class begins on Feb. 4 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

There is no cost to participate in any of the trainings offered.
