DIXFIELD — The RSU 10 board welcomed three student representatives to its meeting Wednesday night.

They represent Mountain Valley and Dirigo high schools in Rumford and Dixfield, respectively. Additional alternate student reps will be appointed, as well as two students from Buckfield Junior-Senior High School.

Addy Fuller, a senior at Dirigo High School, is the primary representative from her school. Alternates are Nick Young, also a senior, and Baily Williams.

Jon Petrie, a senior at Mountain Valley High School, is the primary rep from his school. At least one alternate will be appointed.

Superintendent Tom Ward said the goal is to have two sitting members from each of the three high schools. Including high school representatives provides the board with a student perspective and shows students how governance of the school district works.

In other matters Wednesday, the board granted final approval for three policies that deal with concussions and head injuries.

Ward said a committee comprised of an athletic director, an administrator, a school nurse and the district physician, and perhaps one or two other people, will be appointed to oversee and implement the policies.

Ward said he placed a spending freeze on all nonessential purchases pending a decision by Gov. Paul LePage on whether the state’s school districts will have a curtailment of funding.

The board learned Diedre Gilbert has been hired as an educational technician for special education at Dirigo Elementary School; Donna Stevens has transferred to a full-time nutrition worker position at Buckfield Junior-Senior High School; and Tonya Doyen is a part-time nutrition worker at Hartford-Sumner Elementary School in Sumner.

Following the public portion of the meeting, the board entered into a closed session to conduct its annual evaluation of Ward.

Ward said his salary and contract will likely be acted on in March.
