100 years ago, 1912
Frank Durham of Lewiston received three broken ribs and several bruises as the result of his horse running way Saturday afternoon. He was driving on Main Street near the Fair Grounds when the horse became frightened and ran away. Mr. Durham was thrown from the wagon, two of the wheels passing over his body. He was taken to the C.M.G. Hospital where he is reported as resting comfortably last evening.

50 years ago, 1962
Quick action by a Lewiston police officer prevented any injury when a vehicle burst into flames. Officer Marcel Guay, directing traffic at the intersection of Lisbon and Ash streets, spotted the car when it caught fire. He quickly went to the vehicle, yanked open the door and pulled out the driver, a 78-year-old Lewiston resident. The man had parked his car at a metered space on Ash Street. He returned to the car and was trying to back the vehicle when it caught fire.

25 years ago, 1987
Newly elected officials got their first official glimpse of the inner workings of Lewiston government Monday in a session that could have been dubbed “City Council 101.” City Administrator Lucien B. Gosselin addressed Mayor-elect Maurice Labbe, his new councilors and their returning colleagues in a three-hour work session that featured everything from the city’s charter to downtown parking problems.
