FARMINGTON — The Radiology Department at Franklin Memorial Hospital recently performed a major adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction upgrade of its 64-slice CT scanner. ASiR removes unwanted noise from the raw data to maintain image quality while at the same time using a lower dose of radiation.

Because CT provides detailed, cross-sectional views of all types of tissue, it is one of the best tools for studying the chest and abdomen. It is often the preferred method for diagnosing many different cancers, including lung, liver, and pancreatic, since the image allows a physician to confirm the presence of a tumor and measure its size, precise location, and the extent of the tumor’s involvement with other nearby tissue.

CT services at Franklin Memorial Hospital are available 24 hours a day; outpatient appointments are available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The CT service is accredited for adult and pediatric patients by the American College of Radiology.
