BREWER — Louis P. Pare, 86, of Brewer and Bangor, died Dec. 24, at his home in Brewer.

He was born July 11, 1926, in Lewiston, son of Cyrille J. and Aurore (Lessard) Pare. Louis attended Holy Cross School in Lewiston. He joined the U.S. Marines in 1943 during World War II and was an Iwo Jima survivor. Following discharge from the U.S. Marines, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was deployed to the Philippines, where he met his first wife, Natividad Layoc.

Louis was employed by the Standard Linen Company of Portland, later becoming the branch manager in Bangor, retiring in 1981 after 35 years of service.

Louis met his second wife in Hampden in 1978 through a friendship of their daughters and were married in 1979, combining two large families.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying gardening, hunting, fishing and golf. He was a communicant of the St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor, a member of the Pine Cone Council Knights of Columbus, Whitcomb-Baker Post 4633 VFW of Hampden and the Marine Corps League, Greater Bangor Area, Detachment 1151.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy (Tremble) Perry Pare of Brewer; seven children, L. Edward Pare and his wife, Patricia of Hancock, Reginald Pare and his wife, Karen of Hawaii, Richard Pare and his wife, Dona of Hampden, Robert Pare and his wife, Debra and Annette Pare, all of Colorado, Suzanne Palmer and her husband, Norman Sanville of New Hampshire and Jacqueline Tribou and her husband, Timothy of Hampden; six stepchildren, Catherine Fearon and her husband, Jeffrey of Hampden, Jeanne Barry and her husband, Kevin of Hermon, Jacqueline Rawcliffe and her husband, C. Jack of Hampden, Joanne Lindsey and her husband, Courtland of Newburgh, Martha Doyon and her husband, John of Hampden and Joseph Perry and Mary Beth McGinley of Stockton Springs; 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Patricia Camire, Madeline Roy, Marguerite Roy and Louise Pare; two brothers, the Rev. Paul Pare and Andre Pare; sister-in-law, Catherine McGlauflin; brother-in-law, Joseph Tremble; and several nieces and nephews.

Louis was predeceased by his first wife, Natividad Layoc; sister, Sister Marie Sylvie O.P.; brother, Jean Thomas Pare; two half-brothers, Cyrille and Clifford Pare; and three brothers-in-law, John Tremble, Richard Tremble and Donald Tremble.
