ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — Adelard “Porkey” LeCompte, died Dec. 24.

He was born in Auburn, to Adelard and Imelda “Montreuil” LeCompte, on Dec. 3, 1929. He was of French Canadian ancestry and resided in Lewiston, where he belonged to St. Joseph’s Parish and moved to Lisbon, belonging to St. Anne’s Parish. He retired to Englewood, Fla. in 1990 with his high school sweetheart, Blanche “Marie” LeCompte. They recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary together. He belonged to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Englewood, where he was part of the choir and was a cantor for a few years. He was also part of the Fun Chorus, participating in concerts and performances.

He attended Lewiston High School and graduated from St. Dominic Regional High School in 1950, where he met his wife. Porkey excelled at sports at an early age, lettering and co-captaining in basketball, baseball and football.

In his early working career, he delivered milk for Blais and Cote Dairies, as well as coached high school football and basketball. He also worked for Pepsi-Cola and Sanborn’s Motor Express, delivering product out of Auburn, driving an 18-wheeler. Later, he was the secretary-treasurer for the Teamster’s Union Local 340 in South Portland for 13 years, before retiring in 1990.

Porkey was an avid sports enthusiast, enjoyed watching movies, learning new computer skills and could be seen daily riding his ten-mile bicycle loop throughout the community for the last several years. During his retirement, he substituted delivering Meals-on-Wheels locally. He had a wonderful voice and formed the “Melodears” with his wife, Blanche, and they volunteered singing at assisted living and retirement homes within the area for the last 16 years.

He loved to compete and play cards and games with family and friends, especially cribbage, pinocle, Uno and dominos. He was extremely adept with math skills and enjoyed sharing work stories with everyone. He loved playing practical jokes on people and enjoyed a good laugh. He especially cherished his family and spending time with friends.

He is survived by his spouse, Blanche; his younger brother, Robert LeCompte (Dorothy) of Jupiter, Fla.; six children, daughter, Suzanne (Bertrand) Moreau of Englewood, Fla., daughter, Monique (Edward) Buzanoski of Newport, daughter, Kathleen LeCompte of Lewiston, son, Paul LeCompte of Camden, son, Mark LeCompte of St. Petersburg, Fla., and daughter, Carrie (Kevin) Lapham of North Port, Fla. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Grace (Ryan) LaRocque of Pepperell, Mass., Melissa (Joseph) Peasley of Orland, Ian Buzanoski of Newport and Dr. David (Dr. Kristen) Buzanoski of Portland.

He was predeceased by his father; mother; and sister, Therese Frechette.

He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
