OXFORD — The American Legion Oratorical Contest is an event open to any high school student. Topics for his year’s contest include the participants’ knowledge of Article II of the Constitution and Amendments 2, 22 and 24 of the Constitution.
The contest commences at the local level. In the Oxford Hills area the contest will start in January. Orations will continue at the state and national levels.
The program has been ongoing since 1938 and provides scholarships at both the state and national levels. The winner of the state contest will receive a scholarship in the amount of $1,500. Winners at the national level will receive scholarships in the amounts of $18,000 for first place; $16,000 for second place; and $4,000 for third place.
