LEWISTON — Craig Allen “Popeye” Merchant, 53, a resident of Farmington Falls, died Saturday, Dec. 29, at Central Maine Medical Center, following a long illness.

He was born June 10, 1959, in Farmington, the son of Vincent M. Merchant and Helen M. James. Popeye was a 1977 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. He had worked for Mechanical Insulation in North Turner. He was a football and baseball fan.

He is survived by his daughter, Amy Owens of Newmarket, N.H.; his son, Jeremy Merchant of Livermore Falls; three stepchildren, Sherry, Kira and Michael; his sister, Wanda Bolton and her husband, James, of Effingham, N.H..; four brothers, Robert Williams of Greenville, N.C., Daryl Merchant and his wife, Deborah, of Wakefield, N.H., Everett Merchant and his wife, Sue, of Caribou, amd Mark James of Franklin, N.H.; many foster brothers and sisters; his special beloved aunt, Ellen Webber of Farmington Falls; seven wonderful grandchildren, Sean, Jazzmin, Patience, Colton, Xavier, JaCee and Kendal; his lifelong friend, Darlene Jordan; and several nieces and nephews.
