NEW GLOUCESTER — A New Gloucester man is facing charges of domestic assault and endangering the welfare of a child after multiple calls and a subsequent search by the Maine State Police, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office. 

According to Trooper Nathan Jamo of the Maine State Police, he and deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department responded to 12 Bryana Way in New Gloucester for a domestic disturbance involving an assault.

Jamo said that Megan Cole, 28, had called 911 to report that her live-in boyfriend, Derek B. Dube, 34, had assaulted her numerous times.

Cole reported that Dube had punched her multiple times in the face while she drove her two young children along Route 100 in New Gloucester toward Auburn.

Cole told police that after being punched, she pulled the vehicle to the shoulder of the road, where Dube pulled her out of the passenger-side door and continued to assault her until she was able to escape. Cole ran back to the vehicle and fled the scene, returning home to call 911.

According to Jamo, Dube can be heard banging on the door in the 911 recording.

Upon realizing he could not get back into the home, Dube fled in a vehicle, and responding officers were unable to find him or reach him on his phone.

Jamo took several pictures of Cole’s injuries, which included severe bruises to both eyes and a swollen upper lip.

By Wednesday afternoon, troopers had gathered enough information to believe Dube had fled to his mother’s house at 32 Webster St. in Auburn.

With the assistance of Androscoggin County Detectives Mo Drouin and Kevin Nichols, Jamo located Dube as he attempted to exit a vehicle in his mother’s driveway. 

Dube was taken into custody, placed on probation hold and charged with domestic assault and two counts of child endangerment.
