Witnesses say police are on the scene of a standoff at a home in Mexico and have shut down Route 17.
State police are stationed outside a home on Brown Street, next to St. Theresa’s Church. One witness said police are parked in the church parking lot and have lights trained on the home next door.
Witnesses also said police have shut down Route 17, also known as Roxbury Road, starting at the corner of Harlow Hill Road.
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland confirmed Tuesday night that there is a standoff and the Mexico Police Department has asked for the assistance of the state police tactical team.
