FARMINGTON — Raymond B. Samson, 91, a resident of Main Street, Jay, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, Sunday, Dec. 30, at Sandy River Center, where he had resided for the past three years.

He was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Livermore Falls, the son of Alphonse and Eva (Bernard) Samson. He was a 1941 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1942 to 1946 during World War II.

On June 15, 1946, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, he married his wife of 66 years, Irene Gallant of Jay. Raymond worked in the finishing room at the Otis Mill for International Paper Co. and James River retiring in 1984 after 44 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church.

Raymond was a life member of the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 in Jay, and the International Paper Quarter Century Club. Raymond was interested in politics and was very involved in the Democratic Party. He was active in sports and enjoyed watching television, gardening, hunting and fishing. Raymond also liked spending his time making wood novelties.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Samson of Jay; three sons, Roland Samson and his wife, Bonnie, of North Jay, Gary Samson of South Portland and Maurice Samson and his wife, Donna, of Virginia Beach, Va.; three daughters, Susan Israelson and her husband, David, of Livermore, Nancy Coombs and her husband, Dennis, of Jay and Valerie Deckard of South Portland; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

His family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Sandy River Center for the loving care and support they gave to their father during his stay there and going above and beyond to make sure his passing was comfortable, not only for him but his family also.
