LEWISTON — For those who have resolved to train for a new career or get a better job in 2013, the Lewiston CareerCenter schedule for January includes two job fairs, as well as programming for job seekers and those who are considering training to upgrade their skills to increase their employability.

Two jobs fairs will feature a number of area employers.

— On Tuesday, Jan. 8, 35 employers will be recruiting for open positions.

— On Tuesday, Jan. 15, Oxford Casino and several other employers will be on hand at the Lewiston CareerCenter recruiting veterans for their open positions. While the fair on the 15th is targeted to veterans, the general public is encouraged to attend.

For both job fairs, attendees should bring their resumes, come dressed for a job interview and be prepared to ask questions about the positions available.

The following workshops and events will also be held at the CareerCenter, unless otherwise noted. To register for sessions held at the CareerCenter, call 753-9005.

— GATEway to Employment: Thursdays from 1-4 p.m.: An overview of basic information on resumes, interviews and job search skills, as well as CareerCenter and community resources available during a job search.

— Professionals Moving Ahead! The first and third Thursday of each month, from 9 a.m. to noon.: Network with other job seekers, professionals, and business leaders, and get valuable information regarding job search tools. Registration not required. The Jan. 3 session will be: Staying Motivated in Your Job Search. The Jan. 17 session will be: Resumes and Interviews. Bring your resume.

— Job Search Skills: The workshops will provide the tools needed to be successful in a job search. Sessions will be held Jan. 10 from 1-3 p.m., and Jan. 24 from 8-10 a.m.

— Resumes and Interview Skills: An in-depth exploration of job search, resumes, applications and interviews. Two sessions: CareerCenter on Jan. 10 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Auburn Public Library on Jan. 17, 2-5 p.m. To register for the Auburn Library session, call 333-6640.

— Mock Job Interviews: This workshop provides the tools needed to feel comfortable in an interview. Participating in the Resume/Interview Skills workshop is a prerequisite to attending this workshop. Two sessions: Jan. 16, 3-5 p.m.; and Jan. 31, 8-10 a.m. Registration required.

— Job Search Tips for People with a Criminal History: This workshop will give job search tips, suggestions on how to respond to those hard-to-answer questions and identify where best to seek employment. Jan. 4 from 9-10 a.m.

— Career Decision Making: The workshop’s first day will review the factors involved in making career decisions, the different assessment tools used and available resources. The second day helps apply the information to identify the necessary career and training steps needed to achieve career goals. Registration required. Session one: Jan. 7 and 11; session two: Jan. 28 and Feb. 1.

— CareerCenter Training Orientation: Includes an overview of training programs at the CareerCenter, eligibility requirements and information on accessing services. Call to receive the meeting schedule and to register.

— Essentials of College Planning for Adults: This covers the basic steps for successful college enrollment. To register, call 800-281-3703. Bring last year’s income tax forms.

— Adult Education Consultations: An adult education representative will help explore options to improve job skills and discuss which adult education programs or classes will best meet your needs based on your interests and career goals. Adult education representatives will be in the lobby Jan. 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 10:15-11 a.m.

— Vocational Rehabilitation Orientation: This is for people with disabilities who are considering vocational rehabilitation services. Service providers are also welcome to attend. Registration not required. Session is  Jan. 18, 1- 2:30 p.m.

— Surviving Unemployment from a Financial Perspective: Jan. 16, 10 a.m. to noon. This workshop reviews the basic components for building a budget. To register, call Laurie at 753-6612.

— Veterans Benefits Workshop: This workshop will give veterans a snapshot of what benefits they are entitled to from federal and state governments. Jan. 14 from 1-3 p.m. Veterans and eligible spouses receive priority of service under most Department of Labor programs.
