100 years ago, 1913
W. L. Allen of 562 Main street, Lewiston, returned to his home about 5:20 o’clock Saturday afternoon, went to a closet for some clothing and discovered a man sleeping peacefully therein. When discovered the many was lying on a box, with shoes and overcoat removed, and seemingly without a care in the world. Mr. Allen roused him, questioned him, and the man replied at times rationally. He said he came in through the front door but Mr. Allen can recall no time when the front door was open, and no time when the housekeeper was not there. No valuables were disturbed and nothing in the house was missing. After questioning by police and examination by a physician, he was released.

50 years ago, 1963
A cabinet shop and storage facility owned by the Gerard A. Pelletier construction firm of Lewiston was damaged early yesterday morning in a fire. Damage in the cellar blaze, which also destroyed a boat, was estimated unofficially at several hundred dollars.

25 years ago, 1988
Damage was estimated at $700 to a Lisbon Center driver’s 1976 Mercury station wagon following a single-car accident on Schillinger Road here late last night. The driver lost control of his auto, which went down an embankment onto ice-covered Middle Range Pond before coming to a stop.
