LEWISTON — Oxford Networks announced job cuts to 12 people Friday as well as plans to hire in the future.

The cuts were companywide, according to spokeswoman Julia Munsey, and most positions were hourly, working with Oxford Networks’ telephone products.

She said new hires would be in growth areas for the company, namely data center services and IT management. That hiring period is still to be determined.

“Eliminating positions is never easy, but the needs of our customers are changing, and this restructuring is a necessary part of our transformation from a traditional telephone company to a full service technology provider,” President and CEO Craig Gunderson said in a press release.

Oxford Networks is headquartered in Lewiston and had employed 134 people.

Laid-off workers will receive severance packages and career counseling.
