100 years ago, 1913

The large store in the National Shoe and Leather Bank at 15 Turner St., Auburn, has been hired by locals people who are organizing a company to deal in automobiles and accessories. They will handle the Cole car and several of them arrived at the Auburn station yesterday. Among them was a model 60, six cylinder, 60 horse power, 5 passenger with seats convertible to holding seven. These cars are self-starting and fully equipped with electric lights, etc.

50 years ago, 1963

The Pine Tree Warriors color guard of Lewiston yesterday placed first in the Class B closed competition of a color guard contest at Leicester, Mass. In the Class A closed competition, the Crimson Lancers color guard of Auburn placed sixth. Miss Jeannine Denis of the Pine Tree Warriors placed second in the Class B competition for best captain.

25 years ago, 1988

Local eighth-graders will have the opportunity to step into the world of work this April. Through “Doorways to the Future,” a new project sponsored by the local branch of the American Association of University Women, 30 eighth-graders from Lewiston Junior High School and 30 from Auburn Middle School will “job shadow” local professionals for a day.
