LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Jan. 10, were: first, Vickie Thayer-Adams and Terry Chambers; second, Connie St.Pierre and Henry Maheux; third, Jeanne Collette and Don Haley; fourth, Muriel Webber and Jerry Taylor; fifth, Gerry Roy and Steve Agurkis.

Boiler operator course to begin

AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College  will offer a high pressure boiler operator course on Mondays, Jan. 28 through April 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. The cost is $475 and includes all materials and books.

The course provides participants with the knowledge and techniques to operate a steam generating plant in a safe and efficient manner. Basics of boiler design and control are emphasized as well as the importance of feed water treatment. Topics include day-to-day operations, steam turbine control and power generation, and environmental control parameters to meet emission requirements. The safe handling and combustion of natural gas, fuel oil, coal and wood fuel is covered. The course offers a practical approach to power plant operation and is designed to prepare the student for the state of Maine High Pressure Boiler Operator licensing exam.

Knee injury is program topic

LEWISTON — If knee pain is keeping you from skiing, running, playing tennis or enjoying any of your favorite sports, join Dr. Bruce Hamilton-Dick, an orthopaedic surgeon with St. Mary’s Center for Orthopaedics, for a free seminar about athletic related knee injuries. Hamilton-Dick will explain ways to prevent knee injuries, signs of a serious knee injury and treatment options.

This free presentation will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 22, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., in the Lepage Large Conference Room, 99 Campus Ave.

AUBURN — A benefit dance for Denise Hebert of Lewiston will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Club Texas, 150 Center St.

Denise is a line dance instructor and has worked for 33 years at K-Mart in Auburn.
