RUMFORD — Auditions for the two plays that will be presented as part of the Rumford Association for the Advancement of the Performing Arts Dinner Theater will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5 in the sanctuary of the Methodist Church on Linnell Street.

The two plays have parts for five men and six women. “The Committee” takes place at a retirement home where a self-appointed committee is interrogating a prospective tenant. The questioners want to know if he plays bridge, if he can dance, his cooking skills and his attitude toward romance. Whether he will be accepted depends on his answers, maybe.

“Making a Move” deals with the possibility of a couple moving into a retirement community, being urged on by their middle-aged daughter. The husband is happy to sit at home in front of the TV eating potato chips, but the wife enjoys a more active life and is eager to find a place where she can pursue more activities. When she spends more time with her running partner, Ted, the husband worries and is forced to take action. Both plays are 20-minute comedies.

Perusal scripts for the plays will be available at the Rumford Library from Jan. 18 through Feb. 4. Rehearsals for the plays will take place on Tuesdays between 5:30-7 p.m. with additional rehearsals every other Thursday.

The deadline for signing up for the chorus is Monday, Jan. 28. The first chorus rehearsal will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12th at the church. For a recording of the music for the chorus, bring either a rewound audio cassette or blank CD to the first rehearsal or leave one at Larsen’s Electric no later than February. The music includes: “Hey Look Me Over,” “The Rainbow Connection,” “Blue Velvet,” “Mood Indigo,” “Yellow Bird” (tenors and basses), “The Rose” (sopranos and altos), “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Over the Rainbow” and “Great Balls of Fire.”

Anyone interested in dancing in the performances should contact Connie Porter at 207-562-8232. Dancers rehearse on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

RAAPA’s Dinner Theater will be presented April 26 and 27 at the Eagles Hall in Rumford. The cost is $30 per person and that includes hors d’ouevres, buffet, dessert, water, coffee or tea, three one-act plays and a choral revue by the RAAPA Chorus. A cash bar will be available. Tickets can be ordered from Anita Murphy by calling 207-369-0205 and will go on sale in late March.
