Blood Drive at L-A Harley

LEWISTON — The American Red Cross is partnering with the Mid-Maine Hog Chapter and L-A Harley-Davidson for the 14th annual Super Blood Drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at 839 Main St.

Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. Each unit of donated blood may help save up to three lives. Donated blood is used to help accident victims, trauma patients, transplant recipients and those receiving treatment for life-threatening illnesses.

All presenting donors will receive a coupon for a free pound of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and a free T-shirt. Those who come out to donate will also have a chance to win raffle prizes. Children’s book author, artist

NEW GLOUCESTER— A free book signing and talk with the authors of “The Iciest, Diciest, Scariest Sled Ride Ever!” will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at The Market at Pineland Farms, 15 Farm View Drive.

Pro-life gathering for children

LEWISTON — On Friday, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m. the Jesus Party Pentecostal Kid’s Church will hold a special “Blessing Of The Baby Dolls” gathering at their headquarters at 291 Bates St. Children will be encouraged to bring their dolls to be prayed over.

Rev. Doug and Sonia Taylor, directors of the church, attended the Hands Around The Capitol Rally sponsored by Maine Right to Life to protest the 40th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade on Jan. 7. The Taylors wanted to take their experience and package it in a way that children at their ministry can understand.

The Taylors desire to promote respect for life and at no time will the mention of abortion come up at the gathering. The Taylors believe that it is not enough to just save babies from abortion but children need to be nurtured for and well taken care of after birth and all throughout their lives.

This gathering will be a fun-filled experience for children and will include baby food eating and baby bottle drinking contests. The ministry of the Jesus Party is pro-life, has been on the cutting edge of social issues that affect children since 1994 and has found unique ways to translate heavy subjects into digestible portions for the comprehension of youth in a sensitive manner.

Ballroom class is fundraiser

LEWISTON — A beginner waltz and swing workshop will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at Holy Cross Church Hall.

The cost is $10 per person and basic steps of both dances will be taught. Both singles and couples are welcome. No previous dance experience is needed.

The workshop is a fundraiser sponsored by Connected Catholics of Maine and is open to the general public. The workshop will be taught by Diane Williams. Storm date will be Feb. 10. For more information call 783-0904.
