It wasn’t a matter of if she would score her 100th career goal, but when.

The answer, ultimately, was the 16th minute of the 15th game in her junior season with the Leavitt/Edward Little program. Perhaps the only surprise is that it took more than a full period against Cheverus to hit the round number.

There was more where the milestone came from, though. Landry’s standard-setter was the first of her four goals in the second period and five on the night, propelling the Red Hornets to a convincing 10-5 win at Ingersoll Arena.

“It feels really good. I had my team to help me, so that’s made it better,” Landry said. “I set goals for myself and then try to reach them.”

Landry hit triple digits with a blast from the slot, immediately after Leavitt/EL won a faceoff in the Cheverus defensive zone following matching minor penalties.

The goal also was her 40th of the season.

“That aligned nicely,” Leavitt/EL coach Shon Collins said. “You could see she was a little tight early in the game. I told her, ‘It’s going to come.’ Their goalie was struggling a little bit.”

Officials retrieved the puck for Landry’s personal trophy case. She slapped hands with coaches and teammates before skating to the opposite end and embracing goalie Tori Sanford.

Leavitt/EL wasn’t finished hugging and high-fiving. Landry later cashed in a laser from the right circle with help from Amanda Grenier and two breakaways, both fed by Danica Nadeau, before the period was over.

“I was nervous. Coach told me to calm down and let it happen,” Landry said. “That’s what I did.”

Shaylin Collins also mixed in a goal for the Red Hornets (12-3), who increased a 3-2 lead after one period to 8-4.

Nadeau scored an unassisted goal in a 4-on-4 sequence early in the third period. She also assisted Landry’s fifth goal of the night, another breakaway, with 6:50 to play.

Landry’s achievement and the one-sided win upstaged a brilliant night by Katie Roy, who scored the first four goals for Cheverus (4-10-1).

“She absolutely played an outstanding game,” Collins said of Roy. “She has great moves. Really solid. Protects the puck well.”

Even without Landry’s input, the Red Hornets churned out a slim lead at the first intermission on goals by Shelbea Russell, Emma Martineau and Amanda Williams.

Russell’s was a power-play goal to get Leavitt/EL started. Martineau also assisted Williams’ goal.

“We’re playing like a team more,” Landry said. “Incredible passing.”

“We’ve really been clicking offensively,” Collins added. “We’re starting to move the puck. The girls are getting that there’s time and space instead of forcing it to an area where they shouldn’t, and you see it on the scoreboard.”

Sanford made 16 saves for the Red Hornets, who are in a race with Lewiston for the top seed in the upcoming Eastern Class A playoffs. Jill Hannigan scored the final goal for Cheverus.
