1926 – 2013

AUBURN — Rachel L. Chick, 86, a longtime resident of Wales, passed away peacefully on Jan. 17, at the Auburn Hospice House, with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Falmouth, Nov. 19, 1926, the daughter of Archie Wing Sr. and Louise Bean Wing. She was educated in Greene and Monmouth schools. After graduating high school, she became a telephone operator, then worked at Albany Felt Co. and Bert’s Restaurant. Later, she worked for her son, Elliot Chick, at different businesses in Boothbay Harbor, until she retired in 1992.

She was a loving, devoted and hardworking mom and grandmother, whom will be dearly missed by her family. She was known to her grandchildren as “Nana” and “Rae” to close friends. She loved to dance, spend time with her children and host card games with her daughters every Wednesday.

She is survived by her seven children, Sheila McDonald, Stephen and Elaine Chick, Elliot Chick, Deborah and Paul Bouchard, Randy and Tamara Chick, Judy and James Longchamps, Jeff and Bethany Chick; son-in-law, Jerry Freeman Sr.; two sisters, Rowena Chick, Frances Jenkins, three brothers, Archie Jr., Reynold and Ronald Wing; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Alice Wing; her best friend, Shirley Travers; and her former husband, Edward Chick.

She was predeceased by her mother and father; her daughter, Linda Freeman; son, Timothy; son-in-law, Blaine McDonald; and brother, Robert Wing.

Mom, Linda and Timothy, our angels, rest in peace. We love you.

We also want to thank Odd Fellows’ and Rebekahs’ Home, CMMC Hospital and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for their care of our mother during this sad journey. God bless you.
