LEWISTON — Local author Mark Griffin will serve as instructor for a new Lewiston-Auburn Adult Education workshop which will explore the art and business of writing.

Starting Feb. 7, Griffin will teach an eight-week course titled “Put It In Writing,” which will guide students through the process of creating an original short story, screenplay, article or essay and preparing it for potential publication.

“Whether you are a beginning writer or you already have a few published pieces to your credit, this workshop is designed to assist you in taking your creativity to the next level,” said Griffin. “Through a series of in-class exercises, we’ll focus on the mechanics of writing and also discuss how to market your project in such a way that publishers simply can’t resist. The goal of this workshop is to inspire students to create an original work that they feel proud of as well as offer them practical advice on how to successfully market what they have created.” Classes will meet on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Lewiston High School.

Griffin is the author of the biography, “A Hundred or More Hidden Things: The Life and Films of Vincente Minnelli.” His interviews, reviews and essays have appeared in The Boston Globe, Slant Magazine, MovieMaker and many other publications. A graduate of Emerson College, Griffin is employed as a writer and creative consultant for the Boston-based Laughter With a Lesson, an organization founded by professional speaker and motivational humorist Carol Ann Small.
