AUBURN — Local business leaders will try to impart the importance of ethics in today’s business world to students by participating in a Business Ethics Symposium at Saint Dominic Academy on Monday, Jan. 28.

The event is part of the annual Maine Catholic Schools Week which celebrates the mission of Catholic Schools: to evangelize students by nourishing faith and encouraging academic excellence while accentuating the importance of community and service in a nurturing environment.

Among the scheduled speakers at the symposium are Elizabeth Keene, vice president of Mission Integration, St. Mary’s Hospital; Jeff Gosselin, senior vice president of commercial lending, Mechanics Savings Bank; Steve Costello, vice president of marketing and advertising at the Sun Journal; Dan D’Auteuil, attorney at Isaacson & Raymond; John Story, owner, L-A Harley Davidson; Fr. Nathan March, Office of Vocations director, Diocese of Portland; and Michael Murphy, principal, TRC Solutions.

The senior and junior classes will attend the symposium as the guest speakers discuss why ethics in business matter, how ethics are addressed with employees and how ethical issues with customers and competitors are handled.

“The teachers agree that students know about ethics and they know about business, but not necessarily that they go together,” said Jon Caron, director of advancement at Saint Dominic Academy. “The symposium aims to give students an opportunity to hear from community leaders about the issues they deal with, and to further have the students realize that ethics are universal.”
